Help by Phone
St. Matthew's maintains one of the nine Help By Phone food pantries located around Prince Georges County. St. Matthew's Help By Phone food pantry is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Every year, we provide emergency food assistance to more than 1,000 people in the Hyattsville area. To access services through Help By Phone, call (301) 699-9009.
Children's Rights Council
St. Matthew's is one of the 40 Child Access Centers (Safe Havens) that the Children's Rights Council operates in the Washington, DC area, to provide neutral drop-off and pick-up of children, and supervised access (visitation). Please contact the CRC at (301) 459-1220, if you would like to volunteer to help.
Thrift Store
The "Bearly Worn" Thrift Store at St. Matthew's is open on the first Saturday of every month from 10:00am to 2:00pm. It is located in the basement of the church and carries a wide variety of household goods and clothing for men, women, and children.
Aid to Needy Families at Christmas
During the Christmas season, our parishioners donate funds and gifts to help several financially struggling families. Some of the families are identified from the St. Matthew's and San Mateo congregations confidentially. Two of the families are clients reffered by The Abilities Network, a private non-profit in Silver Spring working with disabled families. Wrapping the donated gifts is a joyous part of our Christmas party every year.
Special Collections and Projects
From time to time, we have special collections for charitable causes such as Episcopal Relief & Development and United Thank Offering. We also participate in the Crop Walk every year on the first Sunday in May. This year we are joining other churches in the area in a special Easter project for soldiers and families at Walter Reed Hospital.
